{"id":85,"date":"2026-05-07T21:38:00","date_gmt":"2026-05-07T21:38:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thethirdhouse.ca\/TheNook\/?p=85"},"modified":"2026-09-16T17:42:08","modified_gmt":"2026-09-16T17:42:08","slug":"first-person-point-of-view","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thethirdhouse.ca\/TheNook\/index.php\/2026\/05\/07\/first-person-point-of-view\/","title":{"rendered":"May 12, 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><em>The Writers\u2019 Nook is a place where we, as a group, can provide a safe and positive environment in which to encourage one another and hone our own writing skills.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-large-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">First Person Point of View<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If point of view is the \u201ceye\u201d through which a story is told, then <strong>first person<\/strong> points that eye inwards. That\u2019s because first person point of view is where the writer (or fictional narrator) relates information <em>from their own perspective<\/em>. If the main pronoun in a piece of writing is \u2018I,\u2019 you\u2019re probably dealing with something written in the first person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Please bring a notebook and pen or pencil with you to the meeting, and if you can, bring a printed copy of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thethirdhouse.ca\/TheNook\/content\/handouts\/2026\/2026-05-12.pdf\">Handout<\/a>&nbsp;to read and discuss at the meeting.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thethirdhouse.ca\/contact\/joyce.php\">Contact me<\/a>&nbsp;if you need a password.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The Challenge<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Challenge between now and the next meeting on May 26th is to begin with THE SAME STORY that you wrote from the last challenge. Take note of these objectives.<br>\u2014 the story must contain and tell about the same action and conflict,<br>\u2014 tell the story from a different character\u2019s perspective, this time in the<strong> first person<\/strong> point of view.<br>\u2014 can you change the dynamics in this story by changing which character is the protagonist from the last time you told the story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Note of interest:<\/strong> this will change the emotional distance to focus it onto a different character(s) than last time because you will be psychoanalizing a different character to create different psychic distances than you did last time. The story will remain the same, with the same outcome to the conflict, but the emotional distances will change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Feedback:<\/strong> Please provide your feedback to these stories in the space below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Your feedback will be displayed only after it has been approved, spam will be deleted.
